Who We Are

Land4Lives or Lahan untuk Kehidupan, is a climate change cooperation project between the Government of Indonesia, through the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/Bappenas, and the Government of Canada, through Global Affairs Canada (GAC). The project aims to improve food security, advance gender-responsive landscape management, and strengthen climate-resilient livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable communities, including women and girls.

This effort supports the Government of Indonesia in meeting its Updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 29% (through its own efforts) and 41% (with international support) by 2030. It also supports the LTS-LCCR 2050 (Long Term Strategy on Low Carbon and Climate Resilience) through climate change adaptation and mitigation activities, as well as the restoration of land and peatland areas.

Implementer ICRAF Indonesia, under the direction of Bappenas
Target Area South Sumatera, South Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara
Project Duration 5 years
(March 2021 – March 2026)

Alignment with the Indonesian Government’s Development Plan

1

Supporting the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture — as well as National Priority (PN) 1 on improving the availability, access, and quality of food consumption.

2

Advancing gender equality in landscape management to support the Improvement of the Quality of Children, Women, and Youth (PN-1) and Gender Mainstreaming (PUG) in development.

3

Helping to realize climate-resilient landscape management planning to promote environmental sustainability and strengthen regional productivity and competitiveness.

4

Gathering data, methods, and tools to support the analysis and assessment of food security and vulnerability at the sub-national level.

5

Realizing gender equity in food provision through agroforestry schemes and sustainable kitchen gardens — transforming idle land into a source of family nutrition while boosting market-oriented household income.

6

Supporting climate change adaptation through activities spanning the provincial to site level across diverse ecosystems, including coastal ecosystems that are highly vulnerable to climate change impacts.

7

Prioritizing capacity building for poor communities and women in agriculture and food provision, which will help reduce vulnerability and strengthen resilience at the household level.
